They have then ventured overseas for further subspeciality training.

Dr Nick Kontorinis (MBBS, FRACP)

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

 

Procedures: Endoscopy, colonoscopy

 

Dr Kontorinis graduated from the University of Western Australia (UWA) and completed his medical and gastroenterological training in Perth. He then did fellowships at Mt Sinai Hospital in New York in the fields of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation from 2002 to 2005.

 

He is appointed at the Royal Perth, St John of God Subiaco and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the WA Liver Transplantation Service. He was Head of Department and Director of Physician Education at RPH. He is a visiting Specialist at Northam Regional Hospital. He is actively involved in clinical research, medical student and post graduate training and regularly participates in national and international meetings.

 

Dr Kontorinis aims to provide a comprehensive Gastroenterological Service with an emphasis on Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy as well as Liver Diseases.

Dr Kannan Venugopal (MBBS, FRACP)

Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Kannan Venugopal is a Perth trained gastroenterologist who has undertaken specialised Inflammatory Bowel Disease fellowships in Perth and in Edinburgh, Scotland.

 

Dr Venugopal offers a friendly, caring and timely service with careful attention to follow up and ongoing clinical management. Urgent cases are seen within 1-2 weeks. His special expertise is in the management of complex Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease and Microscopic colitis ) where a multi disciplinary model of care is emphasised and practiced. Endoscopic procedures undertaken at private hospitals are “Gap Free”. I offer Capsule Endoscopic procedures at both Nedlands and Subiaco

 

He has rooms which are conveniently and centrally located at Nedlands and Subiaco and offer comprehensive gastroenterology and liver care services. Rapid access endoscopic services and timely follow up are offered to all privately insured patients. His public hospital appointment is at Royal Perth Hospital, where he leads the Inflammatory Bowel Disease service.

Dr Samarth Rao (MBBS, FRACP)

Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Samarth Rao is a Gastroenterologist with special interest in therapeutic endoscopy and pancreato-biliary disease. He completed his specialty training in Perth followed by advanced endoscopy fellowships for two years at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth and Vancouver, Canada (Vancouver General & St. Paul’s Hospitals).

 

His expertise includes advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, management of large colon polyps, management of Barrett’s oesophagus and double balloon enteroscopy.

 

He also has appointments at Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals.

 

Dr Sherman Picardo (MBBS(Hons), MSc, FRACP)

Consultant Gastroenterologist

 

Procedures: Endoscopy, Colonoscopy

 

Dr Sherman Picardo is a consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He graduated from the University of Western Australia and subsequently completed gastroenterology advanced training in Perth. He has completed fellowships in both hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease at Royal Perth Hospital, followed by a clinical and research fellowship at the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit, University of Calgary, Canada.

 

Dr Picardo is actively involved in clinical trials and research with numerous publications in the management of inflammatory bowel disease. He has also completed specialist training in intestinal ultrasound and is a member of the International Bowel Ultrasound group. He also has consultant appointments at Royal Perth, Kalamunda and Bentley hospitals.

 

Dr Justin Chin (MBBS, FRACP)

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

Dr Justin Chin is a consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He graduated from the University of Western Australia and completed his postgraduate basic physician and gastroenterology speciality training in Western Australia. He went on to complete clinical fellowships at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Kings College Hospital, London, with a focus on liver transplantation, advanced liver disease and management of hepatocellular carcinoma. He has a keen interest in research and continues to be actively involved in clinical research, with peer-reviewed publications in the field of hepatology.

He also has consultant appointments at Royal Perth Hospital, Bentley Hospital and St John of God Hospital, Subiaco.

Dr Chin offers comprehensive gastroenterology and hepatology care services, and has particular areas of interest in viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, liver cancer, fatty liver disease and advanced chronic liver disease. Dr Chin is also accredited to perform gastroscopy, colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening by the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr Amit Saha (MBBS MCEM FRACP FRCPCH)

Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

 

Procedures: Endoscopy, Colonoscopy

 

Amit is a Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist and trained paediatric endoscopist based in Perth. He underwent his higher specialist training in Paediatrics within the NHS in the UK, and subspecialised in Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology & Nutrition from busy and prestigious centres in London including The Kings College Hospital.

After coming to Australia, he also worked as a full time Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH Melbourne) till the end of 2020, working within a world class team at one of the great Children’s Hospitals.

Currently he has relocated back to Perth and works as a permanent part-time Paediatrician at the St John of God Midland Public Hospital, and offers his services as a paediatric gastroenterologist in his private rooms. Apart from clinical work, he also has a passion for teaching and has a postgraduate certificate in medical education from the UK and holds an academic appointment as senior clinical lecturer with Curtin University.

Amit has extensive experience in managing all aspects of paediatric gastroenterology, with expertise in common childhood problems such as chronic constipation, encopresis, chronic abdominal pain, reflux, poor weight gain, feeding difficulties, celiac disease, problems of the oesophagus, IBD, liver and nutrition related problems.
